It’s difficult to overstate the contribution a good Professional makes to a Club: they’re the voice, the face – arguably the very heart – of the establishment. The first person you see on arrival – and the last face you see as you leave.
Players of the highest calibre, Leamington’s Professionals have made their mark on the National and International tournament circuits. In addition, they are qualified sports coaches: skilled in the encouragement, development and improvement of players of all abilities – from beginner to veteran.
Real Tennis Professionals are responsible for maintaining the court’s supply of balls; LTCC balls are re-covered each week: thick melton woollen felt which is cut and stitched by hand. Similarly, rackets are hand-strung, using nothing more hi-tech than a bradawl, a sawn-off racket handle and an old wax candle. (For more information, refer to the ‘ball’ and ‘racket’ chapters.)
Ben joined the club as Head Professional in September 2014. He is currently ranked number 6 in the world and is still climbing to the upper echelons of the game. A keen and enthusiastic coach, he enjoys being on court and trying to improve the standard of play at the club. He is a US Open Doubles winner and in 2014 reached his first Open Singles Final at the Australian Open.
Liam joined Leamington in December 2015. He has come from the Oratory School Real Tennis Club where he first picked up a racket and began playing the wonderful game of Real Tennis. During his time at the Oratory, Liam worked towards gaining his professional certificate, which he achieved in 2013. Liam is keen to create a name for himself in the Real Tennis world and as Assistant Professional will be working hard alongside Ben to develop Leamington Tennis Court Club.
